Staff Class @ DANY Studios
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Thursday 4/18 – 7-9pm, Studio 1

LEAD BY: Jinduri, Paul S.;

If you have ever wanted to step up to the dual ended death that is a staff, but were intimidated by perceived complexity or size, then this is the class for you. Jinduri will be covering the mechanics required to utilize a staff without getting in the way of the painful parts. In case you were wondering, every part is a painful part. Do not think otherwise. As with most everything else we cover in this group the focus will be on control. Unlike most of our material however, a staff does require some degree of speed to really work. Attention to the subject matter, your actions, and your surroundings will be of the utmost importance.

Normal/regular staffs will be used for this class, so please leave your 7 foot saber staffs at home. We will bring a few extra staffs, but we obviously cannot bring one for everyone. If you have a staff, or stave, in the 4 – 6 foot range then bring it in. If you do not, then unscrew your broom’s handle or buy a long wood dowel.

Attendance implies participation, participation implies respect.

The Art of Killing @ DANY Studios

Thursday 4/18 – 7-9pm, Studio 1

LEAD BY LIBRO, John Anthony; What does this have to do with what we do? Just like there are 1,000 ways to die, there are 1,000 ways to kill or finish off a move/fight.

The objective tonight will be cover selling your finishing moves with artistry and persuasive exploit in order to evoke a noticeable reaction from the audience. Regardless of the type, situation, or speed of a fight, the ending can save or kill or the choreography.

While the focus will be how to kill, and conversely how to die, creatively the approach will of course be one grounded in safety. As always come ready and able to move.

Attendance implies participation. Participation implies respect.

Kicks @ DANY Studios
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

THURS: 4/25/13
LOCATION: DANY: Studios – 305 w. 38th St. Betw 8th/9th ave – Studio 7
TIME: 19:00 – 21:00
INSTRUCTOR: Yogen Himashi

We do some really solid saber work, but some of our empty hand technique is lacking. One aspect of that is kicking and that will be the focus tonight. Since we are not throwing full power kicks and really hitting our target, the audience dose not have a reference for how “good” a kick is. One half of that is (as the target) selling the impact. We do that regularly. The other half is selling the kick through technique. That we do not often cover.

This class will cover some basic kicks and how to execute them without hurting yourself. The goal, aside from safety, will be to demonstrate how to make your kicks look technical, specific, and purposeful. Not like just an awkward limb thrown out for good measure.

NO JEANS should be worn to this class. It is imperative that your movement is not restricted when trying to move your legs. I do not care if your regular wear trousers have “enough give” for you. They might but it is not enough.

Shorts, workout pants, or loose sweats are fine. Tight, but stretchy leggins or the like are fine too. If you can dance in it then it is good enough. By dance I mean ballet, not two step. Jeans, khakis, or slacks will not be allowed.

Attendance implies participation. Participation implies respect.

Dulon Class @ DANY Studios
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

dulonThursday 4/25 – 7-9pm, Studio 1

LEAD BY: Craig Page (RAVE) -

“In New York Jedi, we learn to develop character and we learn to develop our skill with the saber. This class is designed to further synthesize the two. In Star Wars, it’s called a “Dulon”, a short sequence of attacks one does by ones self. For the members of the saber choreo community, it’s called a solo form.  We’ll be going over basic movements and patterns, and then we’ll each develop a 15  second dulon to show for critique.  Attendance implies participation, Participation implies respect.

Thursday 5/16 – 7-9pm, Studio 7

LEAD BY SENIOR STAFF;  Wizard Philly is less than a month out so we will be focusing on honing and polishing our skills for the event. Tonight’s class will focus on basics all con participants should know. Skills to be covered will include some letters, numbers, and target zones. It never hurts to cover the basics, specially when you will be required to teach those skills to children. The idea is to brush up on our basic skills, not teach them in depth so there will be plenty of time for choreo.
